STATEMENT of INTENT

Andrew is a practicing artist and architect. His professional career has been focused in London and the Home Counties – design, drawing and painting have been his lifelong passion.

First exhibiting at just age 9, his talent was recognised at a young age. In 1984, he exhibited his work at Portsmouth’s Mountbatten Gallery and in 1989 his final university architectural portfolio was selected for the Hampshire Consortium for Art and Design exhibition and he was awarded the Royal Institute of British Architects 'Southern Region Prize'.

In parallel with his architectural career, Andrew has been a member of the Society of Architectural Illustrators as a bridge between architecture and art. He has a passion for wilderness experiences. Depicting active human encounters with the natural world, he seeks to generate a narrative through drama, tension and ambiguity. His works explore mankind’s relationship to land, wind, water and sky.

He has shown his skyscapes in a number of exhibitions:

Guild of Aviation Artists' 2024 summer exhibition (Won the Bonham Prize for 'Best group of paintings’)

New Ashgate Gallery's (Farnham) 2024 winter exhibition

Guild of Aviation Artists' 2025 summer exhibition (Won the Bonham Prize for 'Best group of paintings’ and highly commended/runner up for the Sir George Edwards Memorial Prize).

His work seeks to meld 'topic' and 'narrative' to tell a story through the painted image using composition, colour and tone. “I want my work to be attractive to the eye and experienced at many levels, scholarly in creation whilst bringing joy to the viewer."

When Andrew retires from his architectural career he will fully divert his focus to painting and drawing and exhibit his work more often.

Ultimately he aspires to open a small provincial gallery. Primarily as a vehicle to more readily show his work, but equally importantly, to offer other new promising artists an welcoming and discoverable public exhibition platform.

It's his aspiration that this gallery will host exhibitions, debates and creativity based events for like-minded artists and crafts persons across the full spectrum of the creative arts - a simple encouraging, welcoming place of flourishing creative ideas.
